Second Tuesday: Returning
Join us for our monthly workshop at the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships.
In Chinese culture, the winter solstice is celebrated with the traditional Dōngzhì Festival to mark winter’s arrival. Observed on the longest night of the year, Dōngzhì is a turning point—every day after means more light. The festival’s philosophy is associated with the I-Ching hexagram fu, “Returning.” This is the return of positive yang energy after a period of darkness.
For the last Second Tuesday workshop of 2024, we’ll write with this sense of return in mind as we take stock of what we need to reconcile with ourselves in order to make space to create something new as the solstice approaches.
Free and open to all, with community dinner immediately following.

Students Share: Impact of Community Based Learning Courses
Community based learning (CBL) is a pedagogical model that unites classroom learning, engagement opportunities, group dialogue, and guided introspection to make students more informed, more proximate, and more reflective about pressing issues that shape society. As Drexel students, you have a unique opportunity to take truly groundbreaking CBL courses.
Join Writers Room and the Lindy Center for lunch as we hear from current students and recent alums on the impact that community based learning (CBL) courses have had on their Drexel experience, professional development, and life more broadly. We hope you’ll consider enrolling in a future CBL course!

WRITING WORKSHOP & SOLIS BOOK SIGNING WITH PAOLA MENDOZA
Writers Room is thrilled to host an intimate writing workshop and book signing with Paola Mendoza, for the release of her book, SOLIS. We hope you’ll join us for an amazing opportunity to learn from a powerful writer and organizer.
The workshop at Writers Room will be followed by a reading with AJ Hikes at Parkway Central Library, at 7:30pm.
SOLIS is a haunting near-future tale, about undocumented immigrants who are subjected to deadly experiments in a government labor camp and the four courageous rebels who set into place a daring plan of liberation. SOLIS shows the reader what it takes to not only to survive, but to ORGANIZE and create a force greater than oppression.
The first 25 attendees of this workshop will receive a complimentary copy of SOLIS.
Second Tuesday: Reflections
Join us for our monthly workshop at the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships. This month we will celebrate 10 years of the Dornsife Center (and Writers Room!) with a workshop facilitated by Teaching Artist Lauren Lowe.
We’ll look back and reflect on the transformations of the last decade, noting the changes we’ve witnessed in ourselves, our neighbors, and our communities. By looking to the past, we’ll see what that tells us about where we’re going—together.
Free and open to all, with community dinner immediately following.
