John Morrison is a Philadelphia-born writer and DJ. Morrison has spent the last 25 years working in Philadelphia as a music journalist. His work has appeared in The New York Times, NPR, and Spin Magazine. He is currently writing and researching a book-length study of Philadelphia hip-hop history called The Philly Hip Hop Interview Archive. The book is a living archive of recorded conversations with the pioneers and contemporary leading lights of Philadelphia hip-hop culture. This archive will include select interviews from Morrison’s personal archives, as well as firsthand accounts of Philadelphia hip hop’s birth and evolution from the artists, DJs, movers, and shakers who were there. This archive will include interviews with artists across generations with a specific focus on artists who were active in Philly's hip-hop scene from 1973-1979.
